How to check thermostat

It was very simple in accordance the function of thermostat itself, so to determine the condition of thermostat :

1. Immerse thermostat in water and heat water gradually.

      2. Check that valve starts to open at specific temperature.

• Temperature at which valve begins to open 80 - 84 celcius
• Temperature at which valve become fully open 95 - 97 celcius.
• Valve lift more than 8 mm at 95 celcius.

If thermostat starts to open at a temperature substantially below or above specific temperature, thermostat unit should be replaced with a new one. If reused, will bring about overcooling or overheating tendency.

Measure fuel pressure

1. Turn ON ignition switch to operate fuel pump for 2 minutes. Repeat this 3 or 4 times, then measure fuel pressure. Its specification is 360 - 400 kPa.
2. Start engine until it reaches working temperature. Measure the fuel pressure. Its specification is 360 - 400 kPa.
3. Stop engine and measure fuel pressure at one minute after engine shut off. Its specification is over 250 kPa.

Valve Timing J20A Engine RW420

It's very necessary to check valve timing after performing engine overhaul, following is valve timing mark of J20A engine that have been using by RW420, Suzuki SX4.

Suzuki Jimny Type 7, Transfer Case Malfunction

Suzuki Jimny, one of the best 4x4 vehicle around the world. It was compact and short wheel base, make it easy to drive on off road or hill. The 4x4 mode in the Suzuki Jimny was activated by pushing the swith in the center of the dashboard. There are 3 switch, 2H, 4H and 4HL.

This is the function of those switch :

• "2H switch" is pressed to shift 4x4 high range or low range mode to 4x2 mode.
• "4H switch" is pressed to shift from 4x2 mode or 4x4 low range to 4x4 high range.  
• "4HL switch" is pressed to shift from 4x2 mode or 4x4 high range to 4x4 low range.

To shift from any mode to 4x4 low range, vehicle should stop and press cluth pedal if it was Manual Transmission or in Neutral position for Automatic Transmission. The logic command to activating 4x4 from 4x2  mode is :

1. Press "4H switch", vehicle speed is less than 100 km/h, front wheel on straight-ahead position. This "4H switch" sends signal to Transfer Control Module to activate Transfer Shift Actuator on Transfer Case, during this operation, indicator 4x4 is blinking.
2. If Motor limit switch in the Transfer Shift Actuator reach its position then 4WD switch on transfer case turn-on and sends signal to Transfer Control Module that the transfer case is engaged on 4x4 mode. The Transfer Control Module also activate air locking hub on front both wheel to engaged front drive shaft to front wheel hubs. This process then finished.

One of the problem that I have encountered is when "4H switch" is pressed, the 4x4 indicator only blinking, Transfer shift actuator did not rotate. After checking the input and output, found there are open circuit on 4WD switch and 4WD Low switch. Because indicator was blinking, this means Transfer Control Module receives input and sends signal to the Transfer shift actuator. when the indicator switch off, it means Transfer Control Module did not receives signal from 4WD switch and 4WD Low switch.

DTC P0443 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit

One of the characteristic of gasoline is it easy to evaporate on ambient temperature. For example in the gasoline-drive engine, in the fuel tank, the vapor of gasoline should not be released to outside/atmosphere, because it contains hydrocarbon that very harmful and pollutant.

Suzuki Kizashi has emission control to absorb the gasoline vapor and store it into carbon canister, So the hydrocarbon can not escape to the air. When some conditions meet, the gasoline vapor in the carbon canister is released and is supplied to the engine. Engine Control Module regulates the Evaporative Purge Control Valve to open and close.

Evaporative Purge Control Valve receives power from battery 12 volt and ground-controlled by Engine Control Module. If voltage from Purge control valve is less than 3 volt during duty cycle less than 90%, it means there is open circuit. Resistance value of Purge control valve is 24,1 ohm.

Suzuki ALLGRIP

A vehicle equipped with four wheel drive technology offers more stability during cornering and more safety while driving on snow. Some of them have advance technology to regulate torque distribution from engine to driving wheels. This vehicle can only drive by using front wheel as driving wheel or using four wheels in accordance road surface and driving condition, straight-ahead driving, cornering etc.

Suzuki has named this technology as ALL GRIP. Its core is smart transfer case which is located on rear differential. It has four driving mode, they are AUTO, SPORT, SNOW and LOCK. ALL GRIP technology also incorporated with ESP (Electronic Stability Control) to request steering assist from Electric Power Steering, if vehicle tends to understeer or Oversteer.

ALL GRIP from Suzuki become one of the latest technology among another Four wheel drive technology like BMW xDrive, Mercedez Benz 4Matic, Audi Quattro.

A Transformational Decision

Some say, a thousand miles of journey starts from one step. It could be means if we want result different we should do different with our daily activity. It is more reasonable for me. One step here, means decision to do something different.

A decision that we make today can changes what we will get in future. What we get now is the result from what decision we made, what action we choose in past.

From end of September 2016, I make a decision to resign from my working place, one of the biggest BMW authorized dealer in South of Jakarta. After amazing 4 years, I reach so many self development, self enrichment, both technical and management. Insha Allah, this is a transformational decision that lead my success in future. God Willing.
